Children's Ministry - Philippines
"...look after the orphans and widows in their distress..."James 1:27
The Philippines is a heavily populated country with many domestic social and economic problems. With the support of churches in Australia and contributions from our overseas churches we have been able to purchase a large area of land in Cebu. Here a National Centre will be built to co-ordinate the work. Longer term development will include a Children's Home as part of our expanding ministry to children in this nation.
Feeding Programs
The Philippines has no shortage of children! They are everywhere and opportunities abound to share the love of Jesus with them and their families.
In the Mandaue City district a weekly outreach program is held in 10 locations. Ps Allan and Cleofe Manzanilla and three full time children’s workers arrange for prayer times, games, bible teaching, drama, scripture memorization and enthusiastic singing are always popular. Twice a month, a feeding program is held for over 600 children.
In Caloocan, north of Manila Ps Rey and Annie de Leon gather the children for bible teaching and a simple meal of macaroni soup and pasta. In Bagong Silan there are 170 kids, in San Jose Delmonte, 80 children, and in Bagumbong which is a squatter area 120 children attend. In Ps Rey’s house at Shelterville another 120 children attend weekly.
Other feeding programs are held on a regular basis at Legaspi in the Bicol Region and in Pangasinan in Luzon.
School Assistance Program
The SAP continues to be a blessing to many children and families in the Philippines. Because many families are often large, the opportunity for even one child to gain a basic education is limited.
This program now provides financial assistance to more than 230 children to attend primary school. The cost per child per year is $60 and covers enrolment fees, pencils and books, and in some cases uniforms and shoes.
The program is monitored weekly by our staff and regular meetings are held with the parents to give advice on budgeting, hygiene and parenting skills.
The locations and numbers of children being assisted is as follows:
| Manduae (Cebu) | 60 | Ps Allan & Cleofe Manzanilla |
| San Fernando Pampanga | 58 | Ps Nono and Nally Espejo |
| Zamboanga | 15 | Ps marlon & MaryAnne Sala |
| Caloocan | 20 | Ps Rey & Annie De Leon |
| Pasig | 29 | Ps Peter & Nelia Hauje |
